Stop Suffering and Start Loving What Is

Stop Suffering and Start Loving What Is | Behavior and Motivation | Head shot of woman thinkingHow would you feel if the people around you weren’t being so hurtful by doing or saying things that make you feel miserable? How would your life change if you weren’t constantly being bombarded by the negative expectations of others or made to feel like an outcast, misunderstood or unaccepted for who you are? And what would your life be like if you weren’t constantly stressed due conditions and challenges you face on a daily basis?  Wouldn’t you be a free, peaceful, and truly happy person?

I’ve recently listened to Loving What Is by Byron Katie. It’s mighty powerful stuff. What I really like about this book is that it teaches how to experience the world around you without being affected by its negativity, this applies to relationships and life circumstances of all kinds. The guidance in this book has the power to free you from a lot of pain and suffering by making you, literally, more self aware so that when a persistent problem shows up in your life, you are able to look at it in a whole new light.

Removing Stress

This process, what Katie calls “The Work”, shines a light on beliefs or thoughts that you’ve convinced yourself are true. Through a process of self-inquiry, you learn how to ask specific questions that get to the heart of your suffering and help you turn it around, help you release the hurtful beliefs that constantly beat you up, and help you become more aware so that when you’re going through difficult experiences you don’t have to get stressed out over them. The bottom line is, people aren’t perfect and there’s not a doggone thing you can do about that, but you can do something about how you think.

Big changes in life ofter require some kind of change in behavior or taking specific physical actions, such as getting out of a bad relationship, ditching the job you hate, or giving up certain vices. However, this book offers something more difficult and yet far simpler at the same time. Loving What Is examines the fundamental way you look at the world and how faulty beliefs and expectations may be at the core of much of your suffering. As Katie observes, “It’s not the problem that causes our suffering; it’s our thinking about the problem.” This book helps you learn how to change the way you think about your problems. By following the process outlined in this book, you will probably start to feel better right away….like almost instantly.

Loving Life Again

It would have saved me a lot of time and struggle. The good news is, this book is here now. As Byron Katie clearly shows in her book, “It’s no longer necessary to wait for people or conditions to change in order to experience peace and harmony.” And this realization a wonderful gift for us all.

Description From Amazon:

“Out of nowhere, like a breeze in a marketplace crowded with advice, comes Byron Katie and “The Work.” In the midst of a normal life, Katie became increasingly depressed, and over a ten-year period sank further into rage, despair, and thoughts of suicide. Then one morning, she woke up in a state of absolute joy, filled with the realization of how her own suffering had ended. The freedom of that realization has never left her, and now in Loving What Is you can discover the same freedom through The Work.”
