      Hey Cheesecake!

So glad you finally have this up and running! Awesome! I look forward to reading what you have here. I want to weigh 140 lbs. I’ve lost 11 lbs. the past couple month by going gluten free, and cutting out my sugarized nighttime tea. I want to let go of my chocolate “addiction.” I’m thinking something here might help me with these goals.

      Let me go read now!

      You ROCK Scott!

        Kathryn,

Totally awesome to see you here. Speaking of losing weight, I’m working on a secret project. It’s an ebook about diet and exercise that, I believe, will be like nothing you’ve ever read before. Obviously, I’m not a dietitian nor am I an expert on fitness. But I do know motivation. The way I see it, eating healthy and keeping an exercise routine long-term is all about motivation more than anything else. And motivation deals with the way you think and the amount of resistance you have to adopting the new behavior. The problem is, most books or websites that are supposed to help you with this don’t completely address the real obstacles. People lie to themselves about what they’re willing to do to lose weight or exercise. They try everything they can get their hands on but in most cases, nothing works more than a couple weeks (a few at the most). My ebook will address these issue and present a comprehensive long-term plan will work. I can’t wait for you to check it out.

Let me know if there are any topics you would like to see me write about here. Feel free to leave comments and use the “Like” button on any posts you like. I’m looking forward to having you here stimulating the conversation.

        Cheers and much love!

Thanks, Amy! I hope I can make this blog as exciting as some of the chats we’ve had. I’m working on starting a forum to further some of the conversation opportunities here. I think that’s going to be exciting too. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Scott! This blog is off to a Great start!! I have a few ideas for subject matter… I would love to see something dealing with Artists and how they keep themselves motivated, overcoming writers Block, etc… Also, some advice on overcoming bad habits such as smoking, etc… you know I have a few bad habits so I really need a push in the right direction. Anyway, keep up the good work my friend! see you soon =)

Eric, thanks for the feedback! Those are great suggestions for topics. It just so happens, I’m working on a post about habits. Look for it very soon. As for artists keeping themselves motivated, I’ll need to drill down into that one with you to find out what wall, specifically, you’re hitting.

With some subjects, it’s better to cover specific details rather than the entire category because there are so many variations of walls that an artist can slam into.

You can post the specifics of your wall here or give me the details when next we meet up. Thanks for stopping by!

      Cheers!

okay, so when can I buy the book? ;) How about something on going away to college for those who are starting this fall? I know my daughter, who had made quite a positive name for herself in High School, felt suddenly lost, when in College she had to re-invent herself. I thought she had all the tools necessary, as she is so bright and has such a way with people, yet she found herself feeling lost and very depressed. It could go the other way as well, when one has a chance to reinvent themselves after say, a non-noteworthy High School career. There are things to keep in mind in making this adjustment. I tried to relate to my daughter that in life we are always reinventing ourselves when we take new jobs, move to new neighborhood, or even when enjoying a new group of friends. I think your insights here could be quite useful.

A book is in the works, Lynn, but it won’t cost you anything. I’ll be making it available here for free. However, if you are interested in the expanded edition, I will be charging for that one. I’m very adamant about providing a book for free because the whole point of starting this website was so that I could potentially help people shift the way they see things. So I want to create a book that can circulate freely expressly for that purpose.

As for the high school vs. college dilemma that’s an interesting topic. Let me think on it. If I can find a direct connection between her circumstance and the primary topics related to this site, I’ll post something on it soon. Otherwise, I’ll communicate with you via email about this. In the mean time, I would like to hear more about her experiences and specifically, her challenges related to this. You can continue the discussion here or email me if you think it will be too much personal information.

wOO Hoo! I will be looking forward to your book. As far as Dana, she has managed to come out of it, and find her place there in USF, but I know it is a topic that many find useful, as we girlfriends discussed it during her bouts of depression over last school year. I will make time to chat in depth about it soon…

Thanks, Lynn. I’m definitely interested in learning more about how she dealt with it and what it was like when she was going through it. I look forward to chatting.

      Hey, Nick!

Thanks for dropping in. I’m looking forward to completing the ebook so you and everyone can read it. :-) The car hunt is going slowly. I know what I want so it’s now a matter of finding it. But I’m paying cash because I don’t want a payment so I’m waiting to find one what fits in my budget.

      Cheers!

I get excited when goal-review time comes around at the end of each year. That usually means a surge in focus and activity toward some goals. It also means I’ll be adjusting my plans for other goals and dropping some goals altogether, if they’re no longer relevant.

Is anyone else going to set some goals for 2011?

Recently, I’ve started delving into a study about addiction. I’m focusing on the behavioral aspect of it, though I must also consider the chemical and psychological aspects as well.

I think this is going to be an interesting study.

Hello Scott! I was “motivated” to visit your blog by your “dirty” little request on Facebook! Your thoughts and observations about motivation are interesting. Exercise and diet have always been passions of mine.

I have spent a lot of years (A LOT) participating/observing both in myself and others. I subscribe to the KISS Paleo lifestyle and diet. Our human body has not evolved considerably in 10,000 years but our thinking has evolved to a detrimental level.

Also by now from our conversations on Facebook you know I am a subscriber to the idea that each person is a Universe unto itself. The complexity of the human body far out distances our complex thinking. Our bodies are chemical soup resulting in various emotions, and motivations. Change the chemical soup change the thinking. Simple but not so simple.

    Back to Facebook!

      Harmony,

Thanks for stopping by. I find human beings to be so incredibly fascinating. I never get bored trying to understand them at a deeper level. And as luck would have it, I happen to be human too (though some would disagree), so I get to also try to make sense of my own decisions, behaviors, thoughts, biases, etc. Like you said, it’s simple but not so simple. See you around! :-)

Absolutely superb website! I found you via the Psychology podcast, and just spent a long (and thoroughly satisfying) time reading through every single article to date, making a few notes here and there for future reference.
I’ve been an extremely organized person for as long as I can remember, and like to plan ahead, set targets, make lists etc. But feel that my attitude towards others has slipped somewhat in recent years. When I begin a new school year in September at a new school I have resolved to put all of that behind me and completely cut out negative bits of my personality that I am unhappy with- as much as I can. So your website presented itself to me at a very appropriate time: in the run up to that event. I am getting lots of practice in currently!
I have just realized that It’s far too late, and I’m up early, so I will make a hasty dash for the bed! As I have now been strictly told: Sleep is vital!

      April,

I’m also happy that you accidentally stumbled upon my blog. :-) I can’t wait for you to read it, especially since you’ve made reading it sound so inviting…laptop, cup of tea, and coziness. :-) I know I have a lot of readers, but I also know that many of them are not in the right place to comment, so it can be a little lonely. If you feel so compelled to comment, I’d love to interact with you. Also, jump in to my Facebook page where you’ll find a lot of like-minded people and plenty of interactivity. And if you have a question for my new Q&A category, drop me an email.

So happy to see you here, April!
